Giving birth to a new baby can be an extremely joyous moment for a mother. Mothers look forward to the day their baby will enter into the world. Due to this most mothers are shocked when they start to feel depressed after the birth of their child. Postpartum depression is common among many mothers, yet most don't expect to get it. Unfortunately, Postpartum depression can be extremely hard on a marriage. Karen Kleiman MSW, a contributor writer for Psychology Today says, " [Postpartum] diminishes the time a woman has for her partner, which can reduce his marital satisfaction." When expecting a child it is important to do the research on postpartum depression and do all that you can to prepare for the possibility of getting it after giving birth.
