There are many married couples in this world that are unhappy, but for the sake of the children. Although it is important to think of your children when there is a possibility of separation or divorce, you also don't want to raise them in a family that is not intact. Many couples in unhappy marriages fear what effect divorce may have on their children. Mel Schwartz L.C.S.W., a contributor writer for Psychology Today, explains why avoiding divorce just for the children may not be the best idea. Schwartz says, "Telling our children they deserve healthy, respectful, and loving partnerships isn't taken to heart if we don't have the courage to live up to our own words." Some couples want to wait till the kids are out of the house, but this may even be worse. As hard as divorce may be, and as much as you may want to stay together for your kids, it's important think of your happiness as well.
