Every relationship you are in you learn more about yourself and what you truly want in a relationship. You learn what to look for, what are immediate red flags, and how you think you deserve to be treated. Some relationships don't work out, but you may still be thankful you were in that relationship. Some don't work out and you wish had never gotten involved. It's important to know what a healthy relationship is. Susan J Elliot JD, M.Ed., a contributor writer for Psychology Today says there are 10 ways to know if your relationship is/ was good for you:
- Safety - There should be no fear in a healthy relationship
- Self-esteem - A healthy relationship should boost your self-esteem not lower it
- Job/career - A relationship should not effect your job or career
- Children - While in a relationship children should know that you care for them and can protect them
- Finances - You shouldn't be spending money that you don't have while in a relationship
- Stamina - A healthy relationship shouldn't drain you physically, mentally, or emotionally
- Legal - When legal issues are become involved it can make a relationship complicated
- Physical - Your partner should be healthy and know how to take care of themselves.
- Knowing what a good relationship entails - Give and take, compromise, caring for and about the other person.
- Love - There is love throughout the relationship no matter what condition is thrown at you.
