Looking for a Therapist? Key Questions to Help You Find the Right One

Therapy has become a way for many people to cope with certain issues that they may have. Many therapists specialize in a specific type of therapy. If you are in need of a therapist, there are many out there and you want to make sure you pick the right one for you. Margarita Tartakovsky M.S., the Associate Editor for PsychCentral, has a list of questions you should ask each therapist to make sure you choose the best one for yourself. One of the first things you should do is check the credentials of the therapist. Tartakovsky says, "knowing a therapist's educational background may give you information on whether they'll be able to meet your needs." You may also want to ask if the therapist has had experience treating your type of problem in the past. Another important question to ask would be what their style of therapy is. Asking this will help you determine if their style is something you would be comfortable with. Once you've met with the potential therapist you will want to reflect on the interview. Looking back at how they answered each question can help you determine whether or not you felt comfortable and safe.
